C4T #4 Post #1:

This week I was assigned to Mike Kaechele. He is a a social studies teacher in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The school is a problem based learning high school. He is also a concrete artist turned teacher. In his latest post #standardizethat-MACUL version, he discuses how he teaches his students. He teaches students that come from diverse background and each of his students call their school a family "standardize that" he says. His students use project based learning and communicate with lots of other people outside their classroom. He discussed different things that his students do and he finishes the statement with "standardize that."

My Reply:

Hey, I am Kelly Campbell and I am EDM 310 at the University of South Alabama. I absolutely love this video. When I was in high school we did nothing like the activities that your students do. I am a hands on learner so, I would have loved to be in your classroom. Maybe I would still remember the stuff I learned in high school if I was in your class. It has never made much since to me why teacher have to teach us in one way or certain things. I think teachers should have free range on how they want to teach students the material because everyone learns differently.

In one of Mike Kaechele older post, he talks about introverts and extroverts. He says in one of his factuality meeting, the principle asked the question if they were introverts of extroverts. Kaechele replied that he was a introvert. His co-workers were surprised by this response. He goes on the explain that at times he likes to be alone and others hr likes to be the center of attention. It all depends on his mood.

My Reply:

I LOVE this post. I have never really thought about this topic. But I also agree with Trevor. My mood depends on what activities I will be doing. In the morning I am just like you. When my family talks to me I get stressed and that causes them to get frustrated at me because they think I am mad. But in reality I get overwhelmed by a lot of noise in the morning. Being a further educator in a special education classroom, I need to change my train of thought and be willing to communicate with others in the morning.

This week I was assigned to Raewen-Eve from Mr. Somerville's class. She talks about the time when men came to her school to add/build an addition onto her school. She said the used a tall crane and that it was really cool to see a crane.

Hey Raewen-Eve, I am Kelly Campbell from the University of South Alabama in the United States. That is really exciting that your school got a new room. My grandfather used to work with cranes. I think it is fascinating to watch them. I loved reading your post, keep up the great work!

This week I was assigned to Anna in Ms. Nalder's class. She made a chart about using her Chromebook in the classroom. She answered questions on what she liked the most and what she disliked.

This week we were asked to come up with our own post centered around, our area of teaching. I am a K-6 education major for special education. I came up with the idea:

Why do you want to teach in that particular field and elaborate? Give some ideas on how you will be teaching your students and explain.

When I was growing up, I always loved learning new things. My teachers always inspired me in many different ways and they encouraged me to follow my dreams. I love helping people. But I also love helping kids/adults with special needs. My dream is to inspire my students, help them find and accomplish their dreams and also help them to strive and succeed in the real world. I have an older sister and she has whats called Cri-Du-Chat Syndrome. Basically part of her 5th chromosome is missing. Being able to watch her grow up and prove to the world that she can do anything, has inspired me to pursue a teaching career in special education.

In my special education classroom I will teach my students how to talk, read/write, count, etc. Teachers Pay Teachers is a great website for teaching students how to read/write, common life skills, etc. I also want my students to be able to communicate with others and hold a conversation. But I also want my students to be able to accomplish everyday chores. For example, how to tie their shoe, button clothing, laundry, dishes, etc.

Project #12 SMARTboard Lesson

SMARTboard Lesson

This is a video that my group and I created. We are using a SmartBoard and Smart tools. We created a lesson for our students using math and different shapes. We recreated this lesson from a previous lesson we did in our Dr. Seuss rubric. We incorporated CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.G.A.1 and CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.G.A.3 of the Common Core State Standards into our lesson. Due to technical difficulties our Smart Board Project B is available only through this link.

What can we learn from these teachers?

Brian Crosby's post Back to the Future taught me to not let statics, labels or standardize tests hold me back from my teaching career. He also reminded me to think outside the box when coming up with lesson plan and to stay positive. I learned from Paul Anderson's video Blended Learning Cycle, I learned how the engage, explain, explore, expand and evaluate. I really enjoyed Mark Church's Making Thinking Visible and Sam Pane's Teaching Digital Citizenship because I learned that team work helps the students learn and how to teach my students to use the internet safely. In Dean Sharski's Project Based Learning and Roosevelt Elementary School's PBL Program, they both talk about how they use Project Based Learning in their school. I really like how they explained that students are more engaged and want to learn. They are able to create a project that is all their own.

This week I was assigned to Allanah King. She is a primary school teacher in New Zealand. In her post, Connections, diversity, coherence: Three vignettes exploring learning with iPads in primary schools, she talks about how using the iPad in the classroom is a good thing. She has even found some studies to prove this.

Hi, I am Kelly Campbell and I am a student at the University of South Alabama. I am majoring in Special Education and taking a class right now called EDM. It teaches us about technology that we can use in the classroom with our students. I love the idea of using the iPad in the classroom. There are so many great apps that are designed to help students learn. For Special Education there are also a lot of great apps that can help the student communicate and learn as well. This week I read one of Allanah's previous post Ask Before You Post. She talks about using photos from the internet for your personal social media, a presentation or lecture. She explains that once you post a picture to the internet, it is there forever and it can not be removed. So it always polite to ask people before you use or post a picture of them. 

My Reply:

Great post!! I work at a camp each summer and my director told us to ask before we took pictures with people and posted them on the internet. I had never really thought of asking people before she said that. I guess I always just assumed it was okay. But now that I think of it, everyone should ask because once you post that picture online, it is there forever.

This week I was assigned to Hala from Ms. Clark's class. She did a presentation on the times tables. She showed great ways to help you learn them. But I think the title of her presentation says it all, "Multiplication TimesTables."
